It’s my favorite time of year. The cool crisp air, beautiful leaves, steam dancing above the surface of your hot tub… The store has been busy with people stocking up on supplies for the winter. Below are some tips for fall hot tub season from your friendly neighborhood hot tub guys.
- System flush – We always recommend picking a nice day in November to do not just a full drain and refill, but a full system purge as well. This should hopefully allow you to make it through the coldest months of year without having to replace your hot tub water until the weather is a little more accommodating. Nothing worse than a frozen hose when when you need it to flow freely. There are a variety of different hot tub system flush products available and we’ve tried them all. Our favorite is Ahh-some.
- Clean and protect your cover – You can significantly extend the life of your hot tub cover with regular cleaning and the application of a protectant. In addition to preventing mold and mildew, it will help keep the vinyl pliable and soft. We recommend cleaning the underside of your cover with a 50/50 mixture of distilled white vinegar and water. The use of common cleaning products will leave a surfactant residue that can lead to foaming in the water. The vinegar will kill bacteria with no residue. For the vinyl portion of your cover, we recommend a mild solution of water with a small amount of Dawn dish soap. Remember to rinse thoroughly! Finally, an application of 303 Aerospace Protectant will fight the suns harmful rays and give your cover a showroom shine. Do not use ArmorAll.
- Have an extra set of filters – If you find yourself with dirty filters and the weather doesn’t lend itself to cleaning them, pop in your second clean set and deal with the dirty ones later.
- Relax – This one is self explanatory.
